Character Introduction:
Su Haiqing
Haiqing, 18 years old. This summer, he fell in love with swimming, so that his shoulders finally had some muscles. He looked like a clean, harmless boy. He was a senior this year and was preparing for college’s entrance exam. He has a window in his room. When the moon was full, the moonlight would always shine into the room. It shone on his bed and on the floor, only to find out that the dark blue under the moonlight was so gentle.
However, the most important job in his life was to take care of his Grandpa, who was gradually becoming forgetful. His father had to go to work to earn money for the family, while his mother — he never had the impression of a mother in his life. For him, to talk about a mother was only a concept. His father was his greatest pressure. Grandpa was the closest person to him, but all of this added up to something called family, which sometimes made him unable to breathe.
He did not want to go to a normal university. He liked to paint so he wanted study in the art department. However, what he wanted was not significant. His father opposed it with a very simple reason — painting could only be a hobby, not as a job, and even less likely to become a career. His father was not fierce but quite stubborn.
Painting was the only way to make him forget his pressure. When he was happily drawing, the feeling of jumping into the water could single-mindedly draw the colors, light and shadows, also lines and pictures that came out floating in the mind and were impossible to get rid of. His sensitive and intense emotions were completely incompatible with his weak and calm appearance. Even because of this, he did not really know how to express his feelings…
Yan Fei
Yanfei was a meticulous office worker. As a professional marketing public relations director, he always ensured that he would look good and appear like a perfect corporate elite but not a cocky one. He was a perfectionist. He could not stand losing. He could not endure the tastelessness and imperfections in society. With his ‘If you’ll work hard, you can definitely achieve it’ character, it made it difficult for him to forgive those who lived their life by lazing off. In particular, he was the type who knew that feelings were like a piece of worn out cloth, yet he was still reluctant to throw it.
His live-in partner Jimmy was completely different from him. He was lazy, but humorous. He would always try making a pot of beef noodles, but he would ruin the kitchen. Yan Fei would mutter about spending an hour cleaning up the kitchen, however, that bowl of noodles that he would make was really delicious. Moreover, Jimmy was sensitive, indulged in life, and possessed a sense of creativity. This was an important key in maintaining their feelings. Because of Jimmy, Yan Fei was quite satisfied on the table, on the bed and in the eyes of the passersby.
Yan Fei made work and living standard as the driving force of his efforts. He wanted a stable relationship. He desired a promise that could be implemented. He was aware that Jimmy would sometimes engage in a little affair outside, but he was okay with it. He could tolerate it as long as it did not interfere with the foundation of their lives. However, he did not think that when the time was up, there would a beeping sound coming from the microwave oven, so when he opened the microwave oven door, the things inside it had been overcooked and emitted an unpleasant smell. He also had the limit of endurance.
For Yan Fei, love was like a microwave oven. It could make your life mature, but the radiation would harm the human body. As for whether it could be just right or not, that was another difficult problem…
Chen Pinjun
Chen Pinjun was a cheerful boy who came from the south to Taipei to study. His tanned skin was the mark of his work on the seashore throughout the summer. He was a senior in college this year. He was not so stupid as to be regarded as a blockhead. He was attentive and pure. His popularity was so good so that if he went to the night market, he would run into several groups of friends. At home, he had to take care of his three younger sisters in his daily life since he was young. He helped them with their homework, imitated their parents’ signatures, and played with them. He was a good elder brother. His younger sisters in junior high school were still reluctant to part when he went to college in the North, and they demanded that he should come back at least once a month. They were stricter than his parents about this.
His warmth and cheerfulness had keenly attracted admiration from a lot of boys and girls since he was in junior high school. In a first priority junior high school where the education was guaranteed, there were not many such people. He also had several short-term relationships, only to find that the other person ‘wanted to study’ and had no time to date, so they had to end their relationship.
On the contrary, after he went to college, he began to hide himself, keeping a certain distance from other boys and girls. There was nothing wrong with all the boys and girls, but there had always been a certain similarity amongst them that he could not explain in words. They were all similar to him. He did not feel attraction with people who were about his age. If he could encounter a starstruck feeling instead of feelings that seemed to be so far away, maybe it could awaken his enthusiasm.
He took a lot of jobs and the school curriculum was not difficult for him. After he was in the last year of college, he had a lot of time and he was able to help substitute his classmates for their jobs. Once, he substituted as a model in body sketching, and after he met him, he just realized that this was what he yearned for when he hid himself…
Jimmy
Jimmy had been Yan Fei’s lover for many years. He worked as an interior design consultant, so he did not need to go to an office. In this case, the flexibility of his work fitted nicely with his carefree nature. As for his unstable income, it could be ‘covered’ by Yan Fei.
If you asked him, whether he loved Yan Fei or not, he had no way to answer without hesitation. Perhaps, he would tell you rationally that Yan Fei was the partner of his life and that it was beyond love. This answer was very shallow, but none of his flings seemed to mind. Some of them were even Yan Fei’s colleagues and friends.
After Jimmy finished his studies in the art department, he worked everywhere. He even went on a vagrant trip to India. Halfway through the journey, he saw that India had cheap beautiful handmade fabrics, so he thought of a plan. He took all the extra money from his travel expenses and bought it as a wholesale, then brought it back to Taiwan. He thought that he would be able to make a fortune, but he did not expect that after a few days of setting up a stall in the night market, his business would become cold and cheerless. Then, he met his most important guest, Yan Fei. His goods, together with the person himself, were packed up and bought. There were still a lot of ‘mementos’ left in their house. They were beautiful, but they began to get dusty.
Chen Pinxin
Chen Pinxin was very talkative. She often asked people to call her Pinky. She was Pinjun’s little sister, a freshman but at the same time, she worked as a part-timer in Yanfei’s company. She had a lively and kind personality, and she admired her boss. Until she found out the competition between Yan Fei and Pinjun, she stood by and gave him unlimited support and strength anyway.
